Alexander Stadium to be revamped for Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022.

Now that the handover has been completed Alexander Stadium will begin to see the benefits of a £70m investment, resulting in seats for 40,000 spectators and later reduced to 25,000. In addition, an international competition standard aquatics centre will be built in Sandwell.

It has been revealed that basketball will be played in Victoria Square, the site that the handover took place. How this will fit in the space available including seats for spectators will be interesting to see, including the sight of weightlifting at symphony hall.

Overall this will be an exciting time for not only Birmingham but the West Midlands as a whole. The region is in need of an update in regards to the sports facilities on offer and hopefully the benefits will continue long after the games.
