We are partnering with a well-established, international business to recruit an Assistant Financial Controller for a key role within their UK finance function. This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically strong and commercially aware finance professional to step into a pivotal position supporting a high-performing controllership team.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will play a central role in managing day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams including Commercial and Finance Operations, ensuring alignment with company policies while driving accurate, timely, and insightful financial information.

This is a hands-on role with real breadth, offering exposure to both technical accounting and commercial finance, with the opportunity to influence decision-making across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Financial Controller across month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, including journals, reconciliations, and P&L analysis
  • Ensure balance sheet integrity and accurate financial reporting for internal and group stakeholders
  • Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts and management reports
  • Partner with commercial teams to ensure accuracy around sales rebates, promotions, and customer-related accounting
  • Manage and support audit processes, liaising with internal and external auditors
  • Oversee tax and VAT submissions and support compliance with relevant regulations
  • Work closely with group functions on areas such as IFRS16 lease accounting and treasury (FX)
  • Drive improvements in processes, controls, and reporting, ensuring alignment with SOX requirements
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes, providing meaningful financial insight

About You

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with at least 5 years’ experience
  • Strong technical grounding with experience in financial reporting and controls
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and SOX compliance is essential
  • Confident communicator with the ability to partner across functions and influence stakeholders
  • Highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong systems skills (ERP and Excel) with a continuous improvement mindset
