Overview

For an experienced Management Accountant who enjoys being close to the detail, this is an opportunity to join a growing retail business where finance is becoming an increasingly important part of the wider operation. With locations across the UK and a small finance team based in North Birmingham, you’ll have plenty of visibility and a role that extends well beyond simply producing a set of monthly numbers.

Month-end will naturally form a big part of your workload, but the role has plenty of variety around it. You’ll prepare the monthly management accounts, work through the balance sheet, analyse movements across the P&L and make sure the figures are properly supported. You’ll also oversee areas such as the fixed asset register, expenses and utilities, alongside contributing to VAT, audit and other financial reporting requirements.

The business is continuing to develop its finance function, and they’re looking for someone who can bring ideas rather than simply follow established routines. There will be scope to improve controls, reporting and processes, make better use of the systems available and help shape how finance operates as the company grows. You’ll be working five days a week from the North Birmingham office, making this particularly suited to someone who enjoys a hands-on environment and being part of a close team.

Skills Needed

  • Established Management Accountant with experience producing monthly management accounts and supporting schedules.
  • Strong balance sheet knowledge, including reconciliations, financial control and investigating discrepancies.
  • Qualified or studying towards ACCA or CIMA, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
  • Analytical and commercially aware, with strong Excel skills and the confidence to question how things are done.

What You Will Receive

  • A varied Management Accountant position within a growing national retail business.
  • Responsibility across both management accounting and the wider finance operation.
  • The opportunity to have a genuine influence on processes, controls and reporting as the finance function develops.
  • Annual study support and leave for your professional exams.

Summary

This isn’t a narrow month-end role. It’s a chance for an established Management Accountant to become a key member of a small finance function, combining solid accounting responsibilities with the opportunity to improve and develop the way finance operates. If you enjoy having a broad remit, getting involved and seeing the impact of your work, this could be a very good fit.
